Materiality assessment

At BOBST, understanding our impact is the first step toward meaningful change. Our materiality assessment ensures we focus our sustainability efforts where they matter most - across our operations, equipment, and the entire packaging lifecycle. By aligning with global standards and listening to stakeholders, we drive targeted actions that create real value for our industry and the planet.

Prioritizing our actions
Every decision we make shapes the future. To remain resilient and forward-thinking, we must focus on the sustainability topics that matter most. In 2020, we performed our first impact materiality assessment based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards to evaluate how our activities affect people and the environment.

In 2024, we expanded our approach by conducting a double materiality assessment aligned with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). This assessment provides a broader perspective, examining:

  • How BOBST’s activities affect the environment and society (impact materiality).
  • How sustainability factors influence BOBST’s financial performance and long-term resilience (financial materiality).

By integrating both perspectives, we ensure that our sustainability strategy remains both responsible and business-driven, reinforcing our commitment to transparency and compliance with evolving regulations.

Insights driving action

Through materiality analysis, we have identified key environmental and social impacts across our value chain, particularly in our supply chain (upstream), customer operations, and packaging end-of-life (downstream). These insights have shaped our sustainability strategy, guiding our commitments in three key areas:

BOBST Operations

Upholding ethical sourcing, reducing emissions, optimizing resource use, and implementing initiatives that support gender diversity and opportunities for youth.

BOBST Equipment

Innovating machines that lower energy consumption, minimize waste, and enhance user safety.

Packaging Use & End-of-Life

Developing solutions that drive recyclability, material innovation, and circularity.

We are continuously refining our approach to ensure that sustainability is embedded in every aspect of our operations and industry transformation.

Committed to transparency and accountability
Aligning with GRI-based impact materiality and CSRD-compliant double materiality, we strengthen our ability to prioritize sustainability risks and opportunities while meeting regulatory expectations. This dual approach allows us to maintain a long-term vision for responsible innovation while staying adaptable to global sustainability challenges.

Through purpose-driven initiatives and a collective commitment across our teams, we are shaping the future of sustainable packaging for the planet and future generations.
